If any of you are into running, or if you thought it might be fun, consider looking into “pose” running, which is what they will teach at the running certification at Ignite on March 27-28. Historically, I have been unable to run more than 2 miles without feeling it the next day. Likewise, I haven’t been able to run more than 3 times a week without feeling it (shin splints, heel pain, etc.).

I recently tried experimenting with pose running (picking up whatever I could find online), and while I would still consider the jury out regarding how it will help me long term (or in races), I have been very happy thus far. It definitely takes time to get used to, as the running form is a bit different from what you are used to, but I ran 2-4 miles about 4 times this week and never felt any pain the next day. Last night was 4.5 miles, and I feel fine now. I haven’t tested it at high speeds or with higher weekly distances, but I am hoping that this is what I have long been looking for. My goal is to run a marathon sometime this year, as well as break 20 minutes in the 5K, so I definitely have goals at two different extremes.

If anyone has any questions about it, feel free to ask!

I need some serious help with nutrition! The assistance of a nutritionist or an educated foodie! I workout and then I want to EAT! I want food as if I had never eaten. And, if I don’t exercise self-restraint I will totally blow everything that I just did. What is it that my body is craving right after a work out? Carbs? Protin? A combo?

Yesterday, I rode the spinner for a series of fast-paced Time Trials for an hour; then I did 21, 15, 12, 9, 6, 3 of 40 lb dumb bell thrusters, air squats, push ups, sit ups and one-arm rows using rubber bands. But, as I was making a smoothie with healthy stuff I ate left over pasta and grated cheese.

Today, I made Veggie Chili and had it cooking while I rode a hard two hours of tabatas and other drills… some serious ginding involved. I ate PB&J on 1/2 slice of whole wheat before the ride. I rode as if that pot of chili had legs and I was chasing it down the road! I used the smell of it as an incentive… grind another minute standing — spin, spin, spin!

After that I made what could only be called “Un-stuffed stuffed clams!” 10-12 cloves of garlic, 1/4 lb of bacon — brown it, 1lb of cleaned shrimp (I had them in the freezer), a couple of splashs of Tequila and then 3 dozen clams — standing them up so that when they open they open like little birds with their mouths open; then a quart of Veg broth and pepper. Cover in a pot that can go in the oven. When steamed open, sprinkle the clams liberally with bread crumbs and drizzle with olive oil and put under the broiler— brown. Then a couple loaves of oinion bread got cubed-up and tossed with olive oil and browned as croutons. A couple pieces of bread in the bottom of the bowl and the clams and shrimp and broth over the top! Then stuffed mushrums and a salad with goat cheese. Now I am making an apple pie just because I have apples and it tastes good! While it bakes I’ll do a version of Filthy 50’s (make it 40’s) and contemplate whether we have ice cream in the house for the pie. (You just have to have IC w/ pie!) Christ, I should have gone to the Super Bowl party and eaten there! Wait, I still have time…

Seriously, is there a Nutrition Certification?
