Anyone considering pose running (minimalist shoes, no shoes, vibrams, etc.) should watch this:

And if you want to see something really coo that shows how we were made to runl, watch this until the end:

Sorry about the typos in the previous post……Here is something else worth watching. It is about a group in Mexico………….

Depending on how sore I am from shoveling, I might forego the box on Sat AM to do a deep snow run in Saddle River Park (while there is still deep snow). Anybody else interested?

Good post in the Journal on Erin Cafaro, who is a world champion rower who trains in Mercer County, NJ, learning pose running…http://journal.crossfit.com/2010/02/cafaro-runs1.tpl

I replied to this earlier but the reply did not post….Marc, if you are up for a regular run on the street,I am always up for something between 3 and 6 miles. I’m not so sure about snow, never tried that. My number is 201-314-3016.

    Marc-

I’m up for runs too. Tomorrow maybe? When’s good? Around 2 or 2:30 usually works well here…

While on the topic of runs, doing this one next weekend. Anyone up for it?

    Take care.

Neil, I think I can do the one next week with you. Are you doing the 5 or 10 mile?

If anyone is running tomorrow, call me.

  7. neil on February 27th, 2010 9:17 pm

Doing the 10M next weekend. I know 5 is usually more your style, but give the 10M a shot. Might the diminished impact of the trails help cushion the impact enough to make it?

We should do this one though…

    Who’s in?

You are on your own for both of those, lol. I’m just not there yet. My style of running is WOD style — 20 minutes of all out effort. I haven’t mastered the longer time/distance yet. I don’t think a 10 miler will be a problem in a month or two, though…….

I’m still building up after changing over to my hybrid of pose running. Although I see this allowing me to add more miles each week and run longer races, I still haven’t figured out how it will help me reach my goal of breaking 20 minutes in the 5K. I feel strong as far as my “wind” is concerned, but I don’t think I am able to run as fast as I did when I ran with a heel strike. It will be interesting to see how I do when I hit my first 5K of the spring season. Part of me thinks I will come close to 20, while another part thinks that I will have a hard time breaking 25 minutes.

Friday morning, after I dug out, Cathy and I went to Ramapo Reservation on Rt 202 to hike up to the lake in the snow. It took quite a bit of determination to get there… 4 different routes / roads were blocked due to downed trees and wires. Whe we arrived the gates to the parking lot were locked, so we parked at the church up the street and walked in through the woods. There were NO FOOTPRINTS, it was so cool! Pure, virginal snow! For a couple of hours we were far from New Jersey in a land of make believe. We ran sprints through the snow… 30 secs on… recover… 45 secs on (knees high due to deep snow)… 60 secs, etc. We had on pair of snowshoes with us and alternated; I prefered running without the snowshoes. It was a great workout! Best of all was that it was something very special to behold; the trees hung low with heavy snow, snow falling and the crack of snapping branches in the forest. The waterfall was tranquil with water flowing around rocks capped with 20 inches of snow. As we were leaving some others arrived and marveled at the beauty.

Thanks for the responses on the run…I went today and WOW was it hard but fun! I was unable to run more than about 1/4 mile at a time before my legs gave out and I fell down. But what great practice for POSE – when the snow is almost up to your knees you kind of have to lift your legs into a number 4, and when you put your foot down the deceleration makes you fall forward. I think I scared some fashionably dressed Russian ladies on the path but that’s OK because it was a blast, but wicked hard. My quads and hams are toast! I’d love to meetup with some of you to run sometime!

  11. Johno on February 27th, 2010 11:29 pm

For some reason, a LOT of Eastern European people walk on that path every day. We take family bike rides there all the time in the summer, and English is definitely a second language there.

JohnO, Marc, Scot – Run tomorrow, then? We can meet up wherever…John, I’ll call you…I’m at 646.483.1735; neil.booth@gmail.com.

  13. Johno on February 28th, 2010 3:14 am

I’m in. If you are going over 6, I’ll just run as far as I can and quietly drop out, lol. I would suggest the bike path that runs from Ridgewood through Saddle Brook, but I am not sure how much of it is cleared. I can check it in the morning.

    John, Neil, Marc:
I am in for running also, though I don’t know if I can keep up with you. I am going to look into the trail runs . They look like an interesting challenge.

So good. Randy, can you get to Ridgewood? John, what time? PM is best for me (say around 2pm?)

    Marc, can you make it?

  16. scot on February 28th, 2010 2:16 pm

Neil I’d love to come, but have soccer pratice at 2pm. Trail running in the snow is tough… my hip flexers were trashed.

  17. johno on February 28th, 2010 3:14 pm

2pm at the ridgewood duck pond it is…….see you there!

  18. Adam on February 28th, 2010 4:50 pm

Hope you guys get to run. I look forward to joining you soon.

By the way, did anybody find a pair of red Nike Free’s? Great workout on Friday night and think I forgot to take my shoes.

  19. Vic on March 1st, 2010 12:44 am

Adam, your shoes are safe and sound at ignite.
