Beginners On Ramp Sessions:
Our Beginners On Ramp Sessions program is going to look a lot different than the CrossFit group exercise class.
Yes, you will eventually have the option to stay with personal training, go into CrossFit group classes or even a hybrid membership where you do group classes and meet with your coach 1-4x a month 1 on 1; however, before that we need to ensure that you are both competent in the CrossFit movements and fit enough to safely join group classes. To do this, we use established physical benchmarks to monitor your fitness progress.
With that in mind, you will start off by completing 5 one-on-one or private training sessions, where you will be with your coach, as well as possibly an apprentice coach. Our instructors are awesome coaches and individuals, they will help you with working towards your goals.
During your 5 On Ramp personal training sessions you will become familiar with the CrossFit movements (30-40 movements), things like Olympic weightlifting, power lifting, gymnastics and rowing. You will also learn about mobility, injury prevention and nutrition.
Why Personal Training?
Learning movements that are required for improved fitness – movements like squats, snatches and pull-ups – take time, as does improving your mobility, your endurance, your speed and your power.
We used to throw people into group classes right away, but we found this to be a recipe for failure. Students weren’t prepared; they didn’t move well; they didn’t understand their capabilities; they over-trained; they got injured. Or they were simply too intimidated to even show up to a class.
Improving your fitness is a slow process. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses when they show up at our doors. Some students struggle with mobility, others with stability, others yet come to us two months after having knee surgery and need to be tended with care. And on the other end of the spectrum, some athletes arrive at our door well conditioned with an extensive athletic background.
The point is we all have different needs when we start a new strength and conditioning program. It doesn’t make sense to throw you right into classes before you have properly learned the movements and figured out your goals. It may serve you better to remain doing personal training, and that is OK! So at our school, by the time you graduate your On-Ramp sessions, you’ll have a good understanding of all movements, and you will know exactly how to scale each movement to your abilities and you will have a better understanding of which path you want to follow.

- If your coach believes that you need more personal training before joining classes, they will let you know. This is to assure that you have the best start possible.
